1134A intercom amplifier
 

Restoring one of these for a friend, have found T2 secondary windings O/C. Has anyone with similar problem fitted an alternative transformer in this position.

I do not fancy rewinding it!

Hi Andy

I had the same problem with mine, one half of the secondary was o/c Initially I replaced with a 3:1 interstage transformer from Antique Electronic Supply. That worked fine.

I also rewound the entire transformer primary & secondary as I destroyed the primary some how in getting the secondary windings off. Rewinding was a real pain, I made up a winder in meccano that automatically went backwards and forwards to lay out the windings. Took hours, but again the end result worked fine and is indistinguishable now from original.

At that point it was doing one half of the secondary winding, (the primary had been done) the bits of white are dowels holding the space of the second half of the secondary.

Love the winder, brilliant, wish I had kept all my Meccano as a kid!
OK on replacement transformer, will look into that.

Peter, was the transformer from Antique their P-T156 3:1 interstage?

I had a similar problem, mine having an o/c T1 secondary. They're quite easy to dismantle. I rewound mine with a hand drill (but I have to admit the Meccano winder made by Peter looks like a far better proposition - absolutely wonderful). http://www.tibblestone.com/oldradios...adio/T1154.htm

Interestingly, the original winding had spliced breaks in it. I guess materials were in short supply at the time!

Yes that was the one from AES, fits in easily and works fine

Replacement T2 Antique Electronic Supply, fitted and works well. Using an old static noise cancellng microphone, getting about 4-8v p-p drive for T1154.
