KENWOOD TS430s

Hi All, i have in my possession a now working Kenwood TS430s however its external condition leaves a lot to be desired.
I am wanting to respray the two case covers, what is stopping me at the moment are the stick on control labels, didn't want to use heat to loosen the securing glue as i think that it will cause the aforementioned label to curl and screw up.
Almost 100% certainty that they are not available so here is the question, how do i remove it and still be able to attach it to the resprayed case?
any advice or suggestions please.
Stay well and stay safe, Snowy

Will they mask up, and go easy on the paint thickness ? What are the labels made of? Pics of them may help in terms of advice offered

Lemon scented label remover is pretty good for getting labels off whole sometimes even security ones.
They often stick back again if you don't let them dry too much.

Hello Snowy

if its the one shown, you could either mask it, or generate a new one & print onto a label.
The original looks to be dark brown & white in colour, but I think black & white wouldn't look out of place.

Hi Pete, Steve and refugee, all good suggestions, will look into the masking off idea 1st, if that fails then the label remover.
Have you or any other person reading this done a respray if so what colour was the best match?

Found this useful article for doing a speckled finish.

http://www.wb4hfn.com/KENWOOD/Articl...cal_EX-001.pdf

If you find a local auto paint supplier they can usually do a match to the panels, and supply it mixed spray cans . Other alternative is to have a look at the paint swatches in b&q to see if theres anything similar in an oil based gloss

I just looked at the website of the late Ken Kemsky, who many people regard a serious guru for Kenwood equipment. He discusses painting here https://www.k4eaa.com/ptips.htm, but does not mention speckling.

My TS-520 has the speckled finish; I feel fairly unsure about retaining that finish if I were to respray it .

Hi Bazz, the finish is very much like the 'Hammerite' paint finish that is available, not sure if the colour match would be the same tho', i might go for that or just a plain paint job, the radio is quite old and not worth too much. Snowy

I'm not sure that the finish on the Kenwoods is very close the the Hammerite paints; I'm almost tempted to say that the speckled finish on the Kenwoods is a Kenwood speciality and might be quite hard to reproduce, or to overcoat if it hasn't been rubbed down well. I suspect that Mr Halford's car paint shelves will offer some attractive alternatives :).

The label removers smelling of citrus fruit are the old cleaners made of terpenes. They were all the rage for a while in the mid-1990's, but the strong smell meant that they did not fit in well for workplace applications.
