Unknown Cossor Valve Radio. Identified as a Cossor 533A.

Hello,

I am having problems trying to identify a Cossor Valve Radio.
It is quite a large model, say desktop size and appears from my lay observations to have 5 valves.

This is mains powered and has no back on it.
The tuning knob is on the side of the case. The front has a Cossor metal
label. Other than that no indetifying model number.
Please refer to the pics to aid identification.

I have reviewed all of the listed Cossor models on the radio museum website
but cannot find a match. That isn't to say I may have missed something.

Thanks in advance for your consideration.

Well you didn't try the Cossor Webs site.

http://www.cossor.co.uk/rogues-gallary

With that very loose description it could be a 533A

Cheers

Thanks Mike for the link

It is indeed, in accordance with your comments a 533A.

I believe the last time it was powered on it was working.

This forum has proved to be extremely useful.
Have a number of old valve sets and I'm clearing the decks so to speak!

All the best,
J

I have the same set, when I got mine it was obvious that it had not been used for decades, a gentle wake up via my variac and the set sprang to life!
Apart from a low hum it works well despite having all it's original components.
I would not be surprised if your set does work, try it via a lamp limiter.
A very nice set and built like a tank.

Hi Folks,

I'm looking for a back panel for this set.
Is it possible any forum members have this as a spare?

Please PM if so.

Thanks for your consideration.

This is a rare set so although possible its unlikely.

Cossor's of this period used a thin plywood back with a small brass plate.

When I'm next in Poole I should be able to send a picture from either the same or a contemporary model.

Cheers
