“Spun” knob inserts

Had a go at making some knob inserts.
Only 15 though thick but had a sharp little parting tool and some nice ally bar. They look a bit “new” but will dull down with age |
Re: “Spun” knob inserts
As an apprentice at Ferranti's l would have knocked out a few dozen of these on a Saturday morning when the "important" jobs got done.
Those look very good and would completely fool me from across a room. |

Great job!
How did you make them? Jac |

Here are some I made for a Roberts R606MB (picture attached). One of the push button ones and one of the tone control ones are original, the rest are home made. In my case I bored the knobs out a little so that the metal could be left thicker, that made parting them off a bit easier.

Jac.
I turned a length of free machining aluminium bar down to the right diameter. Faced it off with a sharp lathe tool and played about with the feed until the surface looked right, then with a parting tool, parted thin “slices” off at the correct thickness |

Thanks!
The end result looks excellent. Jac |
