GEC 1000 phone not working properly?
Ok I got a GEC 1000 phone for my mum for Christmas I’ve had the dial serviced
And it works perfectly on my phone line but on my mums it rings out fine and rings when called but the person on the other end can’t hear her ? Any ideas what would cause this ?? |
Re: GEC 1000 phone not working properly?
Can the person on the other end hear you when you're on your telephone line?
|
Re: GEC 1000 phone not working properly?
Yes they can, but the phone works perfectly at my house, the receiver is a little quite tho

Re: GEC 1000 phone not working properly?
Have you tried plugging your GEC1000 directly into your mum's master-socket with everything else disconnected? Is your mum on the same telephone provider as you?
|
Re: GEC 1000 phone not working properly?
Yes I tried it straight in the socket, and yes it’s the only thing one on the line, her phone line is with sky, and I’m with EE,

Re: GEC 1000 phone not working properly?
Have you any photographs or information otherwise on how you converted it to work on a standard BT plug? Would you put them on here if you have?
|
Re: GEC 1000 phone not working properly?
I didn’t do the conversion but I can take some photos later when I get home

Re: GEC 1000 phone not working properly?
Any chance of a close-up of that wiring diagram pasted to the inside of the case?

There's one here, Dave. Can't vouch for it being the same though!

Re: GEC 1000 phone not working properly?
* What's the side-tone like from your own speech in the receiver both at yours and your mum's?
* What's the on-hook and off-hook d.c. voltage across whichever terminals you have connected to pins 2 and 5 of your standard BT plug when connected at your mum's house? |
Re: GEC 1000 phone not working properly?
I’ll check that next time I’m over there

Re: GEC 1000 phone not working properly?
Thanks for the pic. I take it that your red wire connected to R/H terminal block T7 is connected to pin 5 of your BT plug; your white wire connected to L/H terminal block T6 goes to pin 2 of your BT plug and your blue wire connected to L/H terminal block T2 goes to pin 4 of your BT plug?
Pins described as looking down on them, left-to-right with the lead towards you and the pins away from you. |
Re: GEC 1000 phone not working properly?
I can't quite make out from your picture of the wiring whether the strap between A2 and A5 (of the left-hand block), as per the diagram, has been removed to disconnect the internal capacitor. As you are using the blue wire of the line cord to connect to the capacitor in your master socket, there should not be a connection to the internal capacitor. Although this is unlikely to be the cause of your problem, it is as well to ensure that it is correctly wired. Also, you appear to have the green wire connected to A4/A7 (as per the diagram). Although this is neither here nor there as the green wire of the cord is not connected to anything in the master socket, it is generally considered best practice to connect this to a spare terminal - such as A1 in this case.

Re: GEC 1000 phone not working properly?
Yes that’s correct pin 2 white pin 4 blue pin 5 red, off hook at my house is 4.23v and there was no reading on hook, I’ll test it at my mums next time I’m there

Re: GEC 1000 phone not working properly?
Ok there is no strap between a2 and a5 there is one from a2 to a3 and the blue wire is on a2, so how should it be wired ?
|
Re: GEC 1000 phone not working properly?
A2/A3 strap should indeed be present, otherwise the bell would not be connected, so your wiring in this respect looks correct.
