Capacitor date code

2 Attachment(s)
I have quite a few of the electrolytic shown. They appear to be made by BHC.
Can anyone de-cypher the date code? My guess is 1986.

Week 20 of 1986 if the same date coding method as on I.C's.
Mike.

Thanks Mike, that makes perfect sense.
Destined for the dustbin, I think.

Probably re-formable - especially if they`ve never been used.

Plenty of equipment about still working with older caps than that.

1986 is modern by our standards.
You can reform them easily using a pair of fridge bulbs in series and a diode.

Agree! A useful value and certainly can be woken up. I have literally hundreds of new caps and they all reform. Give it a try. John.

Re: Capacitor date code

That looks like a replacement smoothing cap for a Philips G11 chassis. It's got the special riveted connections. The originals had a habit of going intermittent, causing a huge spike on the HT rail and ultimately the EHT and blowing a hole through the neck of the tube....

Don't throw them out. Either offer them here in the appropriate section or eBay them.

Re: Capacitor date code

Philips generally recommended reforming at near working voltage with a 47k resistor in series. You should be able to get hem down to 100uA or so after a few hours.
