Cossor 493/AX

Mod please feel free to move this if it's in the wrong place.

I have purchased the "Service Manual" for a Cossor set I was previously unaware of the 493/AX Burma Community Listening Receiver.

Burma is now known as Myanmar.

Unfortunately there is no picture or circuit diagram but the valves used seem to be the same as those used in the 470AC a chassis used in several different sets.

I does however have different wavebands.

There is a description of the mains input fuse being on the front panel so its possible that this set looks a bit like a Schools receiver more industrial than domestic.

The information is dated August 1949 and being so specific rather than a general overseas receiver suggest government contract but that's just speculation on my part.

As Burma gained its independence in 1947 were these intended as aid?

Anyone come across this set?

Cheers

Re: Cossor 493/AX

Researching this has been slow I need to spend some time to get to the information in African Air review 1949 I obtained this snip 1949 - ‎Snippet view - ‎More editions
Altogether he has flown in 28 different B.O.A.C. aircraft Mr. Field tells of one instance in which air transport enabled him to secure a very large order to supply all the radio sets for the " community-listening " scheme in Burma. He was in Calcutta when he received a cable from his London office requesting him to go to Rangoon as quickly as possible. The flight lasted five hours. He obtained full information on the type of set required ; and while flying back to Calcutta he spoke to London ...

Thanks to UKVRRR Facebook page the mystery is resolved.

Tide Soe wanted to know about his Grandfathers set, I would like to thank him for publishing and giving me permission to use his pictures.

Looks as if the set is based on the 472/AX but with a very different case.

The whole set is written in Burmese.

Pictures attached.

Cheers
