Telefon Tipo 332 - Portuguese Visitor with issues
3 Attachment(s)
Hi all, I need a 332 expert here!
This is not a standard 332 and it is driving me a little crazy. I bought it without checking it over at all - I wish I had. I paid too much for it too! Not a great day, but now I've cleaned it, it isn't too bad. Except, it doesn't work. Issues: ==== When connected to the wall, the telephone line appears engaged to anybody dialing in - with the cradle depressed. Checked the cradle contacts and they all 'make' perfectly. No sound - or very very faint dial tone can be heard. I've checked the earpiece, it seems to be perfect. It dials out wrong numbers. I dialed 1471 and got number does not exist. I've attached the schematic - in Portuguese. I think Roseta is the wall port? As it has the handset wired with mains cable (!) I've included the wiring to the handset base - so you can see how it is currently wired. Any help would be appreciated SEAN |

I THINK this'll work:—
Swap the Blue and Brown wires coming from the handset — the spike in the handset wants to go to T5, the one at side to T6. Remove the resistor that's on T2 (I can't see where the other end is going) Remove the link between T10 and T11 and put it between T1 and T2 Connect the Blue wire of the line cord to T11 Connect the Red wire of the line cord to T8 Connect the White wire of the line cord to T1 If there are problems with other 'phones on the line not ringing replace the T1-T2 link with a 3.3kΩ resistor. |

Many thanks 'ThePillenwerfer'
You have made it much better Now when connected to the wall - I can ring in from another phone - bells go, it is like new..... But earpiece is close to silent - no dial tone is evident... But you can hear the clicking as you dial out. I'd spotted the handset wiring issue - but thanks for confirming for me. Anything else I should try? SEAN |

Dave's advice is certainly sound but there's no knowing if the wires going to the dial are the standard colours or not. What I'd do is disconnect the dial altogether and then move the red wire in the line cord to T4. If the volume is then normal the trouble is with the dial or its connexions.
The receiver itself could be at fault — it's unlikely but if you don't test it you can bet it will be :D. To check it remove the brown and blue handset wires from the telephone and connect them to an MP3 player or some such and see if you can hear music. |

Hello
I'm 'with' multi-meter and I've checked that the earpiece isn't o/c or a short. But in answer to the questions: ..... ohms and check across T5 and T6 = 45.1 ohms ...... there should be a crackle in the receiver as the meter is connected or removed = There is a crackle. I removed the slate and brown wire going to the dial (by luck, the colours are the same on this Portuguese Fone) AND WE HAVE A DIAL Tone!! Many thanks, I'll remove the dial and see what is happening in there. This forum is excellent due to there being clever people answering! Thanks a bunch SEAN |

Dial out
I can see issues: Nylon centre spigot. This has been moved and I'm not sure where it should 'park'. I've set it to be parting the blade switches at rest. The three bladed cloverleaf nylon pulse generator cog thingy This parks with the lower knife switch open - this seems to cut the dial tone, unfortunately that may be the issue I have and I see no way to adjust this. thanks in advance Sean |

Re: Telefon Tipo 332 - Portuguese Visitor with issues
I had a similar issue with the operator's dial on one of my corded switchboards. As I recall I simply turned the dial-off-normal actuating spigot until it opened the contacts with the dial at rest - which appears to be the same as you have done. I then checked that the contacts remained closed while the dial was in operation and re-opened when it returned to rest.
As to the actuator for the pulsing contacts, that should hold its contacts closed when the dial is at rest. |
Re: Telefon Tipo 332 - Portuguese Visitor with issues
Sorry but I've only dealt with GPO dials. I could no doubt fix it if I'd got it in front of me but have no chance by remote control.
I'd agree that the 'cloverleaf' is mis-aligned. Hopefully somebody with more eclectic tastes will be along shortly who knows how to adjust it. |
Re: Telefon Tipo 332 - Portuguese Visitor with issues
Without your help 'ThePillenwerfer' I would not have a dial tone.
I have removed the circlip on the clovergear - moved it around about 20 degrees and BANG. All working. I'll add photos of the finished article later. MANY thanks all :) SEAN |
