Smith's Electric Clocks. 1947.
 

I thought the electric clock enthusiasts might like to see these three pictures of assembly and test of Smith's Electric Clocks at their factory at Cricklewood, in the June 1947 edition of 'EVERYBODY'S' magazine.

This was a typical 'picture' magazine similar to Picture Post popular before television took over.

The third picture is one of the very clocks featured still working in my 'museum'.

Hey! Do you want a laugh. This picture of my dear old mum at Box Hill was taken in 1948. The similarity in style portrays the period exactly. I have no idea who the baby may be. J.

Thanks for the interesting pictures, it certainly shows how labour intensive manufacturing was back in those days. I'm fond of Bakelite clocks too, like radios there's a bewildering array of shapes to collect. I have a whole wall devoted to them in my little museum.

I've got 3 of those clocks here too! 2 of them still working, unfortunately 1 has an O/C motor, but I re-wound it with thicker wire and it can be used on around 24V now. One of mine is branded Genalex.

Yes, Genalex was a GEC brand, but they used Smiths synchronous movements: https://lespook.wordpress.com/synchr...locks/genalex/
