Correct Microphone For Sanyo MR-212 ?

2 Attachment(s)
I recently acquired a Sanyo MR-212 Mini R2R Taperecorder (Pic: #1) and after a bit of servicing it's working well.

However it didn't come with a microphone but I've seen a picture on the web of the unit with it's mic and this looks like a dynamic type.

I have quite a collection of mics, some crystal type & other dynamic types (of various impedances) but the audio quality from them varies. The one that gives the better result is a Sony F96 low imp type (about 200R).

From the circuit in pic #2 can anyone advise what impedance is the Sanyo MR-212 designed for?

Definitely low impedance and probably somewhere between 200R and 500R.
You're on the right track just trying various low impedance mics.

Cheers Tim

Some 4 years later.........The correct Sanyo mic is the HM-8 200 ohms and I've just acquired one !!

What's that saying about......."for those who wait"

I have also found that the quality of mikes supplies with budget tape machiens varies enormously. The no-name generic type ones and crystal ones (especially 1960s Acos and Thorn) seem to be the worst. Sony types are usually excellent.

I've also acquired a Sanyo HM-28 mic which is 500R and it has a far better sound (voice & music) and so I've put the mic insert into the HM-8 and it's spot-on !

AC recording bias, plus a masterfully drawn schematic, that may lead some to believe it isn't DC erase.

Can someone advise, each time I read that statement it seems to be praising it but the next time, it appears not to be....which is it? :-/

Hello Camtechman I have the cassette/radio version of this always liked the gear change mech control.............AC/DC bias dunno

A casual glance at the wiring diagram suggests that the erase head is driven from the bias oscillator T6. However, on closer inspection, it is simply connected across the bias oscillator's switched supply.

Not that it's going to be seriously used, the results are quite pleasing, so I'm a happy bunny anyway. ;D
