Vintage Radio Auction Chorley 3-6-18

Specialist vintage radio auction, Adlington Community Centre, Railway Road, Adlington, Chorley, PR6 9RF, 3rd June 2018, commencing noon. Organised by Rob Rusbridge. No connection to any other organisation; this one is my own. Details from http://www.steamradios.com my very own (every expense spared) web site. Already have some nice things entered. Previews & catalogue on web site in due course. Entries welcome. Hall would hold 1000 lots if it had to. Feel free to spread the word to all your friends. All welcome. No need to be a member of anything except the human race. Time the Frozen North got a decent auction of its own. Close to M6, M61, venue is just off the A6. Cornish pasties and other refreshments available on auction day.

Ooooh, I'll be there!

It's grim up north, but we're a friendly bunch and hardly ever bite!;D

Date noted. I hope to be there, seeing that it's the closest event I've seen for a long time.

As far as the sparsity of events is concerned, I would support the idea that it is indeed grim up north.

Hi Rob, great idea and I trust it will be a success. Unfortunately I'll be away when it is on (but look forward to the catalogue).
If successful I look forward to it being repeated.

Re: Vintage Radio Auction Chorley 3-6-18

Obviously I'm hoping it will be repeated. I am already discussing subsequent auctions with a couple of vendors who need to downsize (yes, I know, we're all sniggering at that) but have too much old stuff to sort and won't be ready for June 3rd. Well, the stuff arrives on Saturday 2nd June, which gives them even less time.

... and worse still, I assume it needs to be sorted and notified in time for inclusion in the catalogue.

Re: Vintage Radio Auction Chorley 3-6-18

Putting things into the catalogue is very much a simple process involving me typing the stuff into the database, then generating a new catalogue from the database, making it to pdf format, and ftp'ing it to the website for perusal. Stuff notified on the Wednesday before the auction is early enough to be in the catalogue. Clearly it won't be in the catalogue for long, but there we are. If a seller is not too worried about their stuff going into the catalogue, I can easily type it into the database on Saturday night and have it on the auctioneer's sheets for the next day. I can enter things on Sunday morning if I have to. I have been doing auction admin for several years now, and I have occasionally been adding late entries into the auction while the auctioneer is already well advanced with his arcane art of squawking and banging. The auction is only as good as the office set-up. My office set-up has been tried and tested in the gritty world of Cornish pop-up tat auctions, and if it can survive seven hundred lots on a wet Tuesday evening in Lanhydrock, it can do anything. The pillock using it, of course, needs to stay alert as well...

Rob, this sounds great. Your evidently pragmatic and professional approach to such things as the catalogue inspires confidence. If I'm free on the day I shall be there. Best of luck.
Regards,
Richard

Thanks for explaining the flexible approach to cataloguing - that there may well be extra goodies on the day!

I've got the first six sellers on side. Two prolific sellers of long standing (nice to be taken seriously) one seller for charity, two beginning "jolly interesting" clear-outs, and one who is selling just one thing. Wouldn't dream of poking fun at the man selling just one thing; it's one of those Ericsson phones from the 1970s, this one with push-button dialling underneath and unused, in original BT packing. Photo when I get my hands on it! I think I'm about a hundred lots in at this stage, but awaiting lists so hard to be sure.

By which I assume you mean the Ericofon, sometimes nicknamed the cobra phone, but the later "700" version.

Hi Rob, how goes the catalogue?
Any chance of early previews to whet our appetites?

I'd missed that despite being on the Forum and a Radiophile subscriber. Worth going just to see a well known magazine author/supporter-famous for transporting aged sheds from one county to another!

Catalogue coming on, I'm pleased to report, but still awaiting some usable pictures of the star lots. Won't be long now for the first draft. Just had a pile of new lots notified to me. More valves, a comms rx, and a load of other things. Items coming to light (and to auction) which haven't been seen even by their owners for years. A wide diversity of wondrous old tat. Further entries welcome and invited. Prompt payment!!! Rob.

Re: Vintage Radio Auction Chorley 3-6-18

Slight technical hitch. Can anyone put me in contact with an auctioneer who might fancy doing a bit of squawking and banging on 3rd June? Bit of a let-down has occurred. I could do it myself, but I suspect you'd rather I didn't.

Any news on a replacement Auctioneer Rob? Is your event going ahead? I will get to Chorley if I'm around but may stay on the coast if there's any doubt! I'm sure you would get a good turnout for your independent event.

Cheers,

Dave W
