Rubber idlers rejuvination ?
Hello, this I think is worth a try but I haven't tried it on a idler or capstan as such, just a rubber pad that was cracked and not good.
Castor oil or a derivative that is better. Acrosyl. Also Sucru. May be worth a try. Thought I would mention it. All the best. Geoff. |
Re: Rubber idlers rejuvination ?
Maybe I'm being a bit slow here, but are you suggesting the use of all three substances in sequence, or any given one? I'm not familiar with Acrosyl or Sucru, I'm afraid.

Re: Rubber idlers rejuvination ?
Ah well perhaps I should have explained it better.
Castor oil works but Acrosyl is better but may be harder to get. So it's one or the other (not both). Sucru is obtained in small sachets and once opened is a must use now job. Not mixed with anything else and rather expensive. Sorry for the confusion! Cheers. Geoff. |
Re: Rubber idlers rejuvination ?
Aha! I should have Googled both before asking. They are actually Acrysol, from Corel Pharma Chem, which is a castor oil derivative and Sugru, which is a mouldable glue which turns into a silicone rubber when set. The penny has dropped...

oops my boob with the spelling, sorry. Thanks for the correction, dyslexia and short term memory which is getting shorter.
Cheers. Geoff. |
Re: Rubber idlers rejuvination ?
Sugru is an excellent product, but not for this particular job. It does not hold up well when subjected to abrasion, which it would be on a jockey wheel.
