Re: The Thanks Thread
Thanks due to Ed Dinning for the Ekco A160 chassis, received all good today, dial glass and grille have survived and there's even 4 of the valves in place so not far off working in the big scheme of things. As described, unrestored down to the power cord and spider webs :)
Cheers, |
Re: The Thanks Thread
Big thanks to trh01uk (Richard) for the military goodies I collected today.
Nice to meet you. |
Re: The Thanks Thread
Thanks to Nigel, (Vinylspinner) for going well out of his way to deliver the Ron Smith FM aerial. Was good to catch up and have a yarn, hope you made it back ok.
Andy. |
Re: The Thanks Thread
More thanks due from me, firstly to Joe (The Pillenwerfer) for the booklets. Already come in useful for confirming valve substitutes & doubtless will again. Which brings me on nicely to thanking both Jerry (CathodeRay57) for digging up a UL46 from his stash, & also David (captainpugwash) for finding me a potentially good UL41.
Thank you all very much. Will hopefully end up making a "success story" of the A160 resurrection |
Re: The Thanks Thread
Many thanks to llama (Graham) for the DIN plugs just received.
Very pleased as they are much better quality than the ones I occasionally see nowadays. Would not even let me pay for postage, another great example of forum membership behaviour. Cheers! Peter |
Re: The Thanks Thread
Thanks very much to David (Daveobuchanan) for the Sobell S337 which arrived this afternoon packed very nicely & in better shape than I'd dared hope.
And as Peter mentions above, I owe another David (captainpugwash) a further big thank you for the UL41 valve which arrived today in similarly free fashion and super fast too! This has to be one of the most Gentlemanly and pleasant forums there is going, whether in/outside the vintage electronics community. |
Re: The Thanks Thread
Thanks to greg_simons for the R53 thermistors. The packing was excellent and they are now on their way to those requesting one. The original box with 19/- on it was interesting too !

My thanks to Camallison for the Sony external FDD with a USB I/F Al. / May 23rd. |
Re: The Thanks Thread
Another big 'Thank You' to add to the list (Litz!) of those who benefited from the generosity of Peter, 'Kalee20' in packing and posting reels of Litz wire to fourteen forum members, (if I've counted correctly), myself included. Ordinarily Litz wire is quite out of reach for hobbyists such as ourselves, so it's a real 'windfall'!

Re: The Thanks Thread
In addition to my recent Posts in my Turntable Stroboscope Thread I'd just like to extend a huge vote of thanks to David G4EBT, Radio Wrangler and Tony Duell for their advice, guidance and patience during this lengthy project.
It's been an educational journey for me as I've added to my knowledge in certain areas but I'm still humbled by how little I do know compared with the contributions from the Forum members mentioned above. |

Many thanks Graham I will post a thread on the forum once I get the set on the bench. Rich. |
Re: The Thanks Thread
Many thanks to my beautiful partner Emma who not only tolerates my incessant messing around with, and impulse purchasing of, old radios/music centres/electronics in general. She has also presented me with a radio for my birthday which I have never seen before & even has my name on it!
It's certainly Chinese in manufacture, and suitably cheesy inside with lifted/bridged and cut traces with extra added resistors from the factory & only covers MW/LW bands but this just makes it even further up "my street", it's so different to the norm & I can't put a date on it either, I'd imagine from the styling it's late 70's early 80's. not much to go wrong either as it's so cheaply made, total of 3 electrolytics which I replaced as it was humming loudly but the rest are all disc. Sorry for the long gushy post about what most would see as a throwaway piece of plastic, but it's one of the coolest birthday presents I've ever had & probably unique in it's survival unless anyone has info to the contrary? Anyway better sign off before I get in trouble for OT, although the gist of this post is actually to say a massive Thank You to Emma (if she happens to look through the forum). |

Very special thanks to Alistair (DonaldStott) for sending me the QL and at his own expense along with the vital accessories. Not only that but including some of the elusive (for me anyway!) of the Lidl croc clips.
Thank you Sir, you are a true Gentleman! I sincerely hope that the other forum members that showed an interest in the QL will soon find one of their own. Many thanks once again. Very grateful. Peter |
