CR-70A receiver

Hi
Wondering if anyone here has advice on how to repair a cracked screen on my CR-70a MKI It is of sentimental value, my father owned it in Ireland, spent many hours as a kid listening to it, when he passed away I brought it back with me to Canada. Unfortunately in transit, in the cargo hold, it was damaged and the screen broke. The metal work got a slight dent as well and the paintwork I believe non original, I suspect he resprayed it in Hammerite silver sometime in the eighties. I have the glass piece but wondered if there was anyone remaking old glass screens? Or advice on repair, have thought about superglue but ....... Thank you in advance John |

Hi John, can't help with glass, but I suspect the paint may be original please have a look at mine. Seems to be light grey Hammerite.

Re: CR-70A receiver
There is a special type of superglue formulated for glass repair.
I have used it and it worked very well. I think if the break is clean (no missing chips) then it might make a surprisingly good job of it. There is nothing to lose. If you still don't like it see about having a copy made. |
Re: CR-70A receiver
Glueing it together so you can take some really good photos would be the first step towards making a replacement, so it's worth doing anyway.

Re: CR-70A receiver
Ok I am sold, I will try gluing, having a look around locally for a matching refractive epoxy and see how I get on and if no go will will scan to clear acetate and play with that
