DIY LED clock circuit?

ISTR that, many years ago, one could buy a simple clock kit with an LED display.

I would like to find the clock chip and try one, it needs 0.56” 7-segment display and a local oscillator for use on a DC supply.

If I could also get a stopwatch function, that would be ideal.

Does this ring any bells?

Have a look on ebay for "LED clock kits". There are some for less than £2 including post from China!

Oh b***ger, G6 (thanks for the suggestion!!!) just ordered one from eBay for £1.77 including postage. I have no idea what I am going to do with it apart from making it and playing. These things take a few weeks to arrive so it is a surprise when it turns up, double the fun.

I bought a couple of these Chinese clock kits. They work fine, but the PP3 battery does not last long, Malc.

Thanks all! I've ordered a couple of the Chinese kits. Now I'll wait and see if they do what I want...

Hey Richard, I hope they do what you want! Just an idea, have you considered a Nixie tube version?

I made one myself years ago and then bought one in kit form a few years ago. The tubes are the small ex-Soviet types rather than the big orange ones but the clocks are pretty enough. You can buy kits from PV electronics.

Just an idea!

Also look out for old advance frequency counters. They seem to appear on ebay regularly and the tubes and driver ICs are good. The rest, usually not worth saving.
