Can anyone identify this Elizabethan tape recorder please?

Re: Elizabethan tape recorder. ID?
I can't see it on Radiomusem: https://www.radiomuseum.org/m/eap-e_gb_en_1~year.html
Presumably it's one of their earliest products. The fact that the model name is simply "Elizabethan" also points to this, I suppose. OTOH, does it say "May 1960" on one of those big caps? Good luck with it. |

Dave has something about the company here: https://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/...87&postcount=8

Re: Elizabethan tape recorder. ID?
This has 2 clasps for the lid instead of a lock:
ELIZABETHAN 56 52 gns. Tape Recording and Reproduction Magazine Sept 1957 Page 25 https://www.americanradiohistory.com...UK-1957-09.pdf 54 gns in March 1958 and the Essex is 75 gns: https://www.americanradiohistory.com...UK-1958-03.pdf Perhaps superseded by the new Elizabethan ESCORT which is advertised at only 45 gns in June 1958 page 5: https://www.americanradiohistory.com...UK-1958-06.pdf "A sound idea!" if you scroll down this: https://thevintagetoyadvertiser.org/...appy-new-year/ Not identical but a lower price of 48 gns. Re: Elizabethan tape recorder. ID?
This looks to be in complete contrast to the far more value-engineered Elizabethan products of the early 1960s based around the BSR TD2 and Motek 3 speed decks.
Mind you they did the job well and sold in quite large volumes. And probably contributed to the demise of those Walter machines.... |
Re: Elizabethan tape recorder. ID?
It uses Collaro motors and almost looks home made.
In the above posted advert you can see that they actually use a complete Collaro deck in the 'de-luxe' model. They must have had a deal with Collaro at the time to be able to use the motors in that in-house deck, unless, of course, the deck is actually made by Collaro for them. However, I seem to think that I've come across Collaro motors like that in other unusual in-house tape decks. |
Re: Elizabethan tape recorder. ID?
That looks like a Motek K10 deck. Decent performance with excitingly fast wind speed!

Re: Elizabethan tape recorder. ID?
And fitted with three Collaro motors!

Re: Elizabethan tape recorder. ID?
Electrolytic C’s are dated May 56.
It certainly looks like model 56. I’ll see if there is a manual available. Thanks for all the help. Peter |
Re: Elizabethan tape recorder. ID?
Collaro were happy to sell motors on the open market, Scophany-Baird were one such customer, Motek look like they were another.
It could even been motor sales into the emerging tape deck market that persuaded Collaro to have a go themselves leading to the transcriptor. |
Re: Elizabethan tape recorder. ID?
Can’t locate a Elizabethan 56 service manual!
Has anybody got one I could buy or copy, or know where to get one? Thanks Peter |
