Can anyone identify this mystery vintage square speaker driver? [Jordan-Watts]
5 Attachment(s)
Hello, I'm new to this forum and was hoping someone might be able to identify the speaker driver photographed below? It has no markings, brand name or numbers anywhere and was found in an unmarked wooden cabinet. Looks possibly 1960/70s? It works and feels nice quality, weighing almost 4kg. If anyone can point me in the right direction I'd be very grateful. Many thanks, James

Definitely a Jordan-Watts; nothing else looks like that.
These days, they are quite serious collectors' items. |

Thank you both for your prompt replies. Comparing Jordan-Watts images online I completely agree this must be a JW. Interestingly, the online search also brought up an old thread from here:

I used to visit Doreen Jordan many years ago at her home. She showed me many protoypes that never made it to market. Presumably some of these were the brainchildren of Ted Jordan. All were uniquely idiosnycratic!

Interesting.. maybe mine could have been a prototype.. or the labels have just been removed by a previous owner..

Whilst I'm here I'd thought I'd hijack my own thread and see if anyone recognised a second mystery speaker I have that I've tried to research with no luck. This one has a logo on the front - a "U" with a dot above. It has a single driver in the centre. It came with the Jordan-Watts and some other interesting vintage speakers. Maybe the previous owner was a collector. Photos attached. Thanks in advance!

I think that's an Ultra logo. The speakers are likely to be part of a 1970s music centre. Don't get your hopes up regarding quality.

I think that's the 'Ultra' logo. They probably belong to a relatively cheap stereo record player c.1970. They won't have enthusiasts foaming at the mouth like the Jordan Watts units. crossed with above

A lot of later Thorn audio units had Goodmans speaker chassis,Thorn owned them by then.

These speakers were supplied with an Ultra record player. It was sold for £31 by Curry’s in 1973. I remember this model well since it was the cheapest stereo we sold on which we could claim commission! It had sliding controls.

Definitely from an ultra record player. A relative had the exact system years ago. Will locate a photo.
