TV75 event at Ally Pally

As you all know, the special NVCF that was planned for Ally Pally in November had to be cancelled due to problems with the AP management. All is not lost because John Thompson (who works tirelessly behind the scenes for a museum at AP) is hoping to organise a smaller event on Wednesday 2nd November, the actual anniversary. This will be based in the studios and the old transmitter hall.

The exact arrangements are still very fluid but John hopes that the event will continue into the evening for those who are work during the day.

This is an appeal to all those who can contribute equipment, displays, general help etc.

John is not on the UKVRR so if you don't know him personally please make initial contact via me, either in open forum or by PM.

Gerry has mentioned that he wants the event to take place at his place as well--perhaps you could all get together and sort something out? Im happy to help Gerry and Eileen out on the day if something goes ahead there, the garden has been cleared ( thanks to hard work by a few guys ) of both rockeries now, so is capable of holding a marquee 75ft by 25ft in size, and he said that up to 200 could attend.

What we don't need is 2 competing events on the same day. Ian, could you please talk to John Thompson and negotiate a sensible way forward. If you PM me your email address I'll email you and John so we can sort out something that works for all of us.

No problem--if John is going ahead with arrangements let it be. Gerry had just mentioned it so thats what I was doing--Ally Pally is the home after all!

Nowt wrong with a social event to mark the occasion I would have thought - after all, the event at AP will be limited by the logistics of getting people in and out.....

If this event does go ahead, what will be the requirements for attendance?

Regards,

Dave.

None. You just turn up. At present we're planning on free entry though there may be a donations box.

Please note that the public event planned for Wednesday 2nd November at Alexandra Palace has been CANCELLED.

Alexandra Palace management, at a late stage, have decided to arrange their own event to celebrate TV’s 75th birthday, and it was not considered viable to run two events on a similar theme in the same week. This alternative event is due to take place sometime over the weekend of 5th/6th November. We understand that the details – including confirmation of the date(s) and times - will be posted in due course on the Alexandra Palace website: http://www.alexandrapalace.com

This outcome is beyond John Thompson’s control - and he sends his thanks to everyone for their interest and support for the public event that he had been planning to coincide with the date of the anniversary itself.

This disappointing news follows the cancellation in July of the BVWS/NVCF event that was also due to take place at Alexandra Palace in November.
