Hi!
A "Viewmaster" perhaps? Chris Williams |
Re: Large Decca Colour TV at auction
The Decca was a 26" 30 series Bradford.
Sold for £40, we can only hope it didn't go to the cocktail bar/fish tank brigade, though I don't hold out much hope. |
Re: Large Decca Colour TV at auction
Hello All,
No, Its OK, I left a bid on it as I thought it was a nice looking thing but will definitely have a go at getting it working when I get a chance (will need some help with that Please!) Only bid it got, looks as if it might have been looked after somewhat, the case is excellent. Steve. |

Well done, you!

Re: Large Decca Colour TV at auction
Appears that lot 714 didn't find a buyer, surprising and potentially sad if so: or perhaps, as with Millers of Newcastle who sold what I could bring myself to part with of my accumulation three years ago, unsold items will be offered again a few weeks later.

Re: Large Decca Colour TV at auction
The Auction house does offer the unsold lots afterwards - 714 is on there now, hopefully will find a buyer.

Re: Large Decca Colour TV at auction
A shame it is so far from me, it looks an interesting project, something that I'd take home if it were at my local auction. It may be a blessing in disguise, I do already have enough projects to get finished :-)

Re: Large Decca Colour TV at auction
I did offer a small sum but it was rejected. I also warnéd them about safety of the naked crt.

Re: Large Decca Colour TV at auction
I have purchased the little 9" TV. The Auction House is within walking distance of my home. I will of course let you know what it is with some pics. Picking up Friday.

Re: Large Decca Colour TV at auction
Delighted the old Decca's found a good home. I'm sure we'll be able to help once you've got it on the bench. On second thoughts, the bench will probably collapse under the weight!

Re: Large Decca Colour TV at auction
Great receivers the 30 series DECCA. The LOPT is the only weak area together with the usual shorted boost cap, lack of height due to the resistor feeding the height control going high and exploding mains filter caps. I'm not sure what you can do with the LOPT. It is encapsulated with resin/hardener and may be difficult to rewind but there is probably a few NOS ones floating about. Good luck with it, John.

I picked up the home constructed receiver yesterday.
It has turned out to be the ELECTRONIC ENGINEERING TELEVISION RECEIVER that was first published in the EE in 1948. It's owner apparently lived in the Dorking area. It looks at first sight to be a right mess but examination proved that it was all complete with a good Mazda CRM92 CRT, rubber mask in good condition and a liquid paraffin filled magnifier. The cabinet is ugly almost comic like something out of Wallace and Gromit! Can anyone help with information as to where I may find a circuit? I have a number of EE mags but unfortunately they do not cover this period. The pictures show the chassis. The sound receiver is bottom left with the vision receiver mounted above it. The mains transformer is at the back with the mains EHT transformer just in front of it with the massive Visconol at the front. The line output transformer [not flyback EHT] is far right. HT rectifier UU8, LOPT valve AC/6PEN, EHT rectifier HVR2 line and frame generators Mazda Thyratrons T41. Sound and frame output EL33's, a mixture of EF50 and SP61 valves completes the line up. Regards, John. It will be a winter project. |

You know when you have seen something and just can't remember where? I went straight to it this morning and found it in minutes in one of my bookcase racks. Fortunately I have discovered the full constructional details booklet for the EE TV Receiver.
I will open a thread in the TV section when work commences! It will be a winter project. Regards, John. |

Were you actually going to walk home with it? I bet it would seem very heavy after going just a few yards ;D Cheers Andy |
Re: Large Decca Colour TV at auction
When I was 12 or 13 I probably would have done. I used to carry them home from Jumble sales balancing them on garden walls for a rest. Old ladies used to stop and say 'are you OK son, you look a bit pale, that looks far too heavy for a young lad...' It was! Cheers, John.
