Transmitter Breakdowns?

Hi!

When I lived in Morecambe and helped out in local repair shops during the early to mid 1980s, I was given the job of repairing a Bush A823 used in one of the local hotel's dayrooms, and the parlous state of the set wasn't helped by the local CH4 transmitter (this was when CH4 started at 5 pm), having developed some sort of fault – the test card kept breaking up into mosaics, crackly sound, then there would be constant switchovers between the ETP1 card, colour bars, crosshatches, dark grey rasters, full–screen VITS, and periods of unmodulated and unsynchronised (but noise–free) rasters!

None of this was exactly useful for lining up grey–scale, convergence or dicky ident/delay line problems as you might guess!

Have any other Members any experiences of this sort of performance?

Winter Hill?
No I can't recall any endemic problems with C4 in the early days.

Would the transmitter have been the Lancaster Relay?
