Smile Let's have a look at your Bench/Lab/Workshop/Workroom/Den

The heated debate in the soldering iron thread got me thinking.

We are all different and we all work in different ways and with different equipment, doing different tasks.

This forum seems to be the only forum without such a thread, so......let's have a look at your lab!
Post a picture of your Bench/Lab/Workshop/Workroom/Den

As soon as I can find my digital camera, I'll do mine.

Well, a photo of my kitchen table wouldn't be so interesting so I've found a few pictures from my shop 'RadioVision' when I was on London Road South in Lowestoft, Suffolk.

Gawd only knows what was going on on the bench the day the 'bench' picture was taken, it really wasn't usually that bad

The picture of the pile of chassis and the start of my favourite TV collection were taken in the cellar.
(The TV's were of course an early G11 with the power switch attached to the controll drawer, and a lovely GEC something or other that was a real minter and only needed a tripler to give me a perfect picture)
Unfortunately when we moved from Lowestoft to Milton Keynes I had to pass the TV's and radio's on because we have no room for them

Incidentally, if anyone out there has a G11 like the one in the picture, I'm desporately after another one, I spend many many happy Saturdays in a TV repair shop in Luton repairing hundreds of these

Hi all,
One or two photos. I always have something on the bench to while away the hours. Sometimes the "blue smoke", escapes in very loud fashion causing early closing time by "Her indoors"
Enjoy,
Paul

These are all absolutely fantastic. I love nosing through people's workshops and sheds.

All I can really show off is things that I've made on Flickr.

I hope that Jerry Can wasn't placed there as a heavy hint by "Her Indoors"

My workshop; not at it's tidiest but I think that adds to the charm! One or two Grundigs awaiting attention on the bench.

My workshop wouldn't be very interesting now as since I retired I have disposed of practiclly everything. I do have a GEC TV similar to the one in Dr Watts picture though if anyone wants it for free.

The "shed" this evening- I had a bit of a tidy up yesterday, so I can get to the bench without having to climb over anything

This is the 'tidy' part of mine.

(The green tray with the record player in it is a potting tray from a garden centre - I find it really useful to place whatever I'm working on in that as dropped parts fall into the tray, and I can easily move the whole thing out of the way if necessary)

The rest of the workshop at the moment is filled with old fruit machines, various radios and a pinball machine - all not working!

Errrr, ok.

http://www.***********/photos/old_computers/

The plinths are really easy to make, and super cheap too. You just get a bit of MDF at B&Q, and they cut it for free!! The stuff at Homebase btw is thinner but more dense, making it harder to work with overall. Any of you could make these to requirements. Just take a tape measure and a pencil along, mark it all out, and they'll happily cut it. If you need more than 4 cuts then offer to make a donation to the store's charity box at the front.

The SOIC adapter. ....was too tight to pay for them, so made my own.

Hi Alison,
Wow! A bit high tech and tidy for here

I remember having an Atari 520 stfm when i was about 16, we had a flight sim on it that was actually very good for the time.

I still have the Atari games Console and a few games, a real blast from the past.
Maybe i should play it on my G8, that would show how good the convergance is

this is my workbench - in my garage - cold in winter - and in summer, I want to be in the garden - no wonder there are so many radios on my 'round tuit' list!
That's a Murphy SAD94S chassis on the bench - just started to re-wire and re-cap it. Normally I have 3 radios in bits on the bench + a load of test gear, but I made a concerted effort to clear everything away for the Murphy (took 2 hours yesterday!).

Cheers
Andy

This is all quite stunning!
Fabulous!

As soon as SWMBO returns with the camera, I'll post some pics of mine.

Quick OT> Alison.
Are those Peak testers any good?
You seem to like them!
I've pondered getting the one for three-legged fuses.

Not Alison ..but I have the LCR bridge version and it's simply brilliant, incredibly easy to use and robust.

This is my workshop area :-

One shows development testing of a nixie clock CPLD that I designed. The other some PSU repair work being undertaken.

Default That looks pretty pure ...

This is a slice of my workbench. I'm checking out my low distortion oscillator prior to making some measurements and trimming the local 'cal' oscillator in a stereo multiplexer. I have to turn the central heating off doing this otherwise the pump and fan sends the traces off-screen

Sorry guys, but its nearly all tr or !!

They're alright. More of a gimmick if the truth be known. The transistor one is good for matching transistors and finding out which pins are BCE on unknown components.

The Capacitor ESR one has already saved me a bit. It hasn't had it's full use yet, since I replaced all of the caps in the SMPS.

The LCR one. Again. All very nice.

At the moment they're sitting in the cupboard in their little box. Admittedly they're like more bits of test equipment. Where you only really use them when you need them. I had bought one of the original semi-conductor ones a few years back, never used it, and then gave it away. It was only a year later that I needed it.

I wouldn't pay full price for them though... Rapid gave me a deal for buying all three, more like their +5 price, and then the 10% trade on top of that.

Oh btw for any of you with test equipment, Maplin has it's little flight case with foam that you cut, at £9.99 at the moment.

Keep the pictures coming. Don't be frightened. All appreciated. Other rooms welcome too.

Hey Chris, what's in the white chemical container over the back there? It's not ferric-chloride, that's yellowish.
