Default Who has information about the Scophony?

Hello everybody,

My question is in the title.
I would like to know if it exists - a live Scophony or maybe diagram of this interesting equipment?

In fact I discovered it in a book shop, but I've no more information. If someone sees a real one and has a picture, I'll be happy to see it.

I hope this picture pleases you

wilfrid

Unless there's been a recent discovery, there are no known surviving Scophony sets. A few odd parts exist. Jim Beacon has a high speed scanner:

There are also a few parts in the Bradford (NMPFT) collection.

I too would like a scan for my website.

I've been trying to build a reference for British sets, the scophony section being here :-

There are several versions of the Scophony design, and the development was chronicled in Television.

Some use a single mirror drum, with a standing wave type light valve, where as the later versions use a simple light valve and two mirror drums.

There is also a version using a single moving mirror, and an arc of fixed mirrors (earliest type?).

My copies of Television are currently in my old office at West Drayton, so I can't access them for a couple of weeks - John, did you scan the Scophony bits when you borrowed the magazines?

Jim.

Hi Gents, try the Manchester museum of science and technology, they got the complete Ferranti archive, so there may be some material there.

Hi all
I found this page of a brochure in a 1938 TV survey made by KB which was loaned to me by John Howes (thanks John). I didn't realise that the Scophony technology had been used by any other company than Scophony/Baird - especially one as prominent as Ekco.

The price tag of 220 gns. made it the most expensive in the survey which started at 21.5 gns.

What a find one of these would be!

Cheers
Brian

If you hadn't seen it the link in Jim's website http://www.tvhistory.tv/1938-Scophony-UK.htm
is about the most comprehensive set of Scophony documents.
