Default Problem with my Sony U-Matic V0-5630 player

Hi everyone. I'm hoping this is a straightforward thing to resolve.

My Sony U-Matic V0-5630 player was absolutely fine yesterday, but today when I switched it on, it wanted to fast forward for a few moments (the FW button lit up). There wasn't a tape inserted at the time.

When I try to insert a tape it is unresponsive. I've opened it up to see if there is anything obvious. I've pushed the pulley wheel back to trigger an eject (was wondering if it 'thought' there was a tape inside.

I haven't a clue with this. I'm hoping someone here might!

I'm assuming this has a carriage bulb? If so it's probably gone. You can use a 12v small capless car dash bulb if you can't source a match.

It could be the square belt under the deck that is broken. You'll need to tale off the bottom panel to check. The carriage lamps are just that, they are not involved with the tape or movement detection.
