Default Another Sweetheart?

One of my colleagues Steve at work (knowing my interest) brought in this rather lovely set

Outwardly the case is similar in shape to the 31/1 inside however it looks a little bit more complicated.

I don't have my Wireless for the Warrior to hand (Vol 4) so I thought I would ask for some help here.

Some small modifications have been made so I would like to be able to identify original and mod as well.

Cheers

The set is 4 valves and here are some pictures of the battery box.

I didn't close the battery box completely as its a real tight fit and I didn't want to cause any damage.

It's Polish OP 3 (Type 30/1).

I've only ever seen one of these (when I took the photos on RM) but I'd dearly like to possess one! They're a joy to behold, inside.

The nearest I can manage at the moment is a Marconi P17B which squeezes the electronics into a similar space but is only MW coverage.

Hi Herald I am with you on this its a real solid lump in your hands and it's hard to believe its from 1943.

I have made sure its owner is aware of its monetary and historic value. To be fair I think he was already aware its a special item.

I always appreciate it when people show me these things.

I hope he keeps it for his family so generations to come will enjoy it.

He's a fellow engineer and his Father had it working not too long ago so I feel it will shortly be receiving once again.

Cheers

That's interesting looking at the pictures in Heralds link the battery box is quite different.

The holes for a speaker look at least in part to have been drilled "freehand"
But the design suggests a speaker was designed to be fitted?

The batteries have been reloacated to leave space.

Very interesting

Cheers

There were 2 versions one had the speaker in the battery box and the other was for phones only. I believe that the speaker version was known as OP-3G.

I have started building a copy of Sweetheart type 31-1 but one day may get around to building a copy of OP-3 (type 30-1).

Just checked this site: http://www.cryptomuseum.com/spy/op3/ and discovered that there are 3 versions, I am not sure what the differences are between OP-3 and OP-3A.

Having seen a real OP3 thats quite a task.

Really like to see the results.

As Gerry always used to say though, It was built by people so I can recreate it and you know what he always did.

Are there any pictures of the OP-3G ?

Cheers

There are pictures here:

http://www.wftw.nl/24%20OP3-G%20v1%2000.pdf

and a schematic here:

https://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/...d.php?t=130210

I don't think I will be able to replicate the OP-3 particularly accurately and it is a project for the future.
