Default It's old, but what is it?

Hello
My neighbour is a collector of curios and with my recent interest in things electrical he has asked me if I know what this is?
I don't (nor does he)
I suspect its French railway signaling of some sort
Anyone help?
Philip

Possibly some form of timer or pulse divider. One of the holes in the big wheel looks like it has a pin in it. Does that activate a contact, or perhaps it's a contact itself?

The legend in image 2 appears to be in French.

It does have a railway look about it, and also being found in Darlington may be a clue. Rather a large electromagnet pulsing a stepper mechanism. Four fixed contacts I think, and one sprung moving contact on the wheel, so a sequence of circuits made per rotation (hourly perhaps). Maybe two opposing magnets?

Hello Everybody

Graham- yes there is a contact on the large wheel ,it makes contact with 4 contacts below

Lawrence - it is indeed very similar to the Western Electrical one.

Dave Moll - Yes I think there are French references prob SNCF French Railways

AC/HL - I follow your thinking, but I don't think it was picked up locally- probably France

Tom_I Yes that seems to be it

Many thanks to all for time, effort and interest...I can now appear to be very knowledgeable!

Kind regards to all

Philip
