Thought a change from TV's might be interesting , granted there aren't many of us now. Back in Feb 07 we had one of our bi annuual Reel to Reel club meets in Blackpool, if I can manage to reduce the pic. I will forward, you might know some of the members.

Interesting to see the pic of the annual R t R meet in Blackpool..
Partially answering the question .What is a reel to reel club......?
In the 60s most towns and cities had Tape recording clubs. Including countries abroad .
Sometimes even three or more depending on the size of the place and the interest..
Members came from all walks of life with a common interest in Reel recorders.. A bit like photography clubs. Or Ham radio clubs,
Active clubs used to build equipment like Mixers .Preamps etc for instance. Quite often you would take you prized recorder to the club on the bus. Very heavy if it was a Ferrograph or Brenell.
Weekends would see us trying to record the Steam trains, Ships on the
river etc or wild life sounds like the birds in the air..
Mike tequnique effects etc.
Sometimes ,We would have a guest speaker from a recorder shop or manufacturer or the BBC, Or maybe one of the tape recorder magazines..
Clubs from different towns would come along occassionally or we would visit them.
Sadly, They are all gone.. Or so I thought ?.

It was good to see the pic of the meeting in Blackpool but was it mentioned anywhere in the Forum or elsewhere ?. Or was it just a meeting of like minded freinds.?
Surprised to see Geoge West in the pic as I wasn't aware he was interested in R t R .
Anyway, Nice to see People still chatting about reel to reel.....

I have saved the info and printed it out also.
To show others that I am not alone when it comes to being enthusastic about Reel recorders..

Big apologies to George West. I forgot he was the Ferrograph expert and mixed him up with someone else.

I must be getting mesmerised by spinning reels.

I well remember starting the Blackpool Tape club at my shop premises in 1959, one of the first I think, it went on I believe for some 25 years, I had long since left.
The R/R club is as you thought a meeting of like minds who keep in touch & every couple of years have a meet in Blackpool, although I do see George West quite often. Barry of Brenell fame & I talk at least once a week & I keep in touch with Geoff. in Oz. of "Get Reel" regularly. Between us we have a fairly wide experience of R/R recorders & archivists of no small measure in Barry Jones, Geoff. Rosenberg & George West.
Hope the article was of interest & I must thank Paul for inserting said article in the forum, PC s not my strongpoint, basics only . Here's hoping the R/R continues to persist well into the future, unlike some of us.

Often wondered if any old ex Tape recording club friends get together or still chat about the the REEL old days..
Its quite possible.
Occassionally I come across someone who had reel to reel recorders in the past and remembers them with affection.
Sometimes I am asked about getting a machine to play some old tapes.
I have copied tapes to cassette or CD now and again but find it too time consuming.
It isnt very well known that in the late 50s and into the early 70s.
Before the advent of emails etc.
Tapesponding was very popular..
I used to be a member of TAPETALK, The Voicespondents club and one or two others ..
Sending tapes to all parts of the world. It was good fun to receive a reply a couple of weeks later with news from Hawai. New Zealand. USA.
as well as from people in other parts of this country..
Mostly, Tapes would be mostly 3" inch long play { to keep the weight and cost down } but now and again I used to send a radio recording of some orchestra or other on a 7" inch tape recorded at 7 1/2 ips..
Like I say, Good fun and it kept me off the streets

More reminisces when I get my breath back.
