Alright, good to know. I may end up buying a small amount for this then.

Ditto here. Metallic lead is quite stable and relatively benign. When it gets vapourised and inhaled, or dissolved and ingested, it can indeed be harmful, but the exposure in hobby-style soldering repair work is negligible. Of course it is always wise to avoid breathing in any fumes, which mostly emanate from the flux, so work in a well-ventilated area.

So from what I'm understanding, I need Multicore metallic lead solder, correct? Just making sure I'm getting it right before making any purchases.

It says it's flux covered, I'm not familiar with that type, I've only ever used multicore flux type.

By any chance could you link me some solder that you think would work?

Leaded solder is almost harmless unless it is mixed with acid even in small quantities.
Leaded water pipes caused health issues in locations where drinking water comes from areas with acid soil.
If blueberries grow wild in the hills do not let lead get into contact with the local drinking water. Limescale makes lead pipes safe.
For electronic equipment it is completely safe.

For an initial supply of solder, PM me your address and I'll send you a free large letter's worth. (About 100g less whatever the packing weighs!)

Any of the various suggestions including your own will be fine too.

If you do boot sales or autojumbles and the like, keep your eyes open for the occasional bargain. Even 50 year old stuff should be fine!

Ah okay, here attached one. And you don't have to send me any solder if you don't want, but if you're completely okay with it then I will.

Good photo. It looks like a cartridge about 2cm max would be needed. A Chinese cartridge I've got here is about 3cm including its tags. I wonder if anyone has sacrificially stripped one down to its tiniest form for possible use in a case like this.

A Sonotone 9TA might be small enough since being so slim it could go a little way up the arm past the "head-shell".

I've got a couple of stereos that pre-date the current crop of Chinese carts so I'll measure those just in case.

I've just measured the cart in a music centre in the loft and it is about the same as the current Chinese ones so no help there.
Then I measured one in an Alba SuperSound which features a BSR belt drive turntable - I don't know what model number. The cart in it is a bit shorter than the Chinese ones but it's a whole lot slimmer than even a 9TA. So those with more BSR knowledge than me might be able to pin it down from that.

Probably a BSR SC11M or SC12M or H.

This little player saga has intrigued me rather. A little "help" in your progress is not a burden!

PM that address!

Okay, another question I have, how would I check if the motor is working? I've been told that I need to make sure that is working before spending any money.
