SIR101 - what is it?
Cryptic question time, folks!
I have a metal box, I suspect WW2 era, labelled 'Cases Minor Spares' with an Army Reference number ZC 18412. It also has an ID plate written in what I guess is Russian. It contains spare valves and an ACR10 CRT. There are a couple of vacant spaces, one labelled CV100, which is a trigatron, and one difficult to read as it's been covered by a small paper label, also in Russian. The trigatron points to the spares being for a Radar of some sort. I think the writing under the paper label says 'SIR101 OSC'. Googling suggests SIR might be 'Stepped Impedance Resonator', something I'm not familiar with, but then it could be something completely different. Can anyone suggest what system the spares are for, and what the missing SIR101 OSC might be? Many thanks, Andy |

Is this perhaps the same item?

Graham, that's amazing, the very item! I'm guessing I must have bought it maybe two or three years ago, I can't remember just when. How did you find that link?
Al, anything's possible, although I would have thought SIR would stand for something to do with the missing component as opposed to the overall system. I agree OSC is likely to be short for 'oscillator'. Andy |

There's something on the paper label stuck over the SIR101 marking. I'll see if I can get a picture of it.
I don't know how much equipment was supplied to Russia? I guess we've all seen examples of the (Canadian) 19 Sets with Russian markings, but I would have thought radar to be a bit too sensitive at that time. |

Not sure if this is anything to do with it...Gun laying radar, some GL Mk11 units were sent to Russia and some GL MK111 units were too according to these two Wiki articles, not had chance to research further to confirm anything either way (Mk11 mentioned in the Mk1 article):

Lawrence, yes, quite possibly associated.
Given my box is labelled 'Minor Spares', I guess there may have been one labelled 'Major Spares' for bigger things including 5" or 6" tubes! Andy |
