Candlestick Telephone help.
Hi, I recently got hold of a candlestick. It actually has a 150 crossed out and a No.4 at the top, go figure? I have tried wiring to the 150 diagrams and its not working. Should it work as per a 150 markings ? It also has a No 12 dial instead of the No 10, but don't think that makes any difference. I think its a wiring problem, as I have had some response from it by moving wiring to different places, but nothing that works properly. I have heard please try again, and had it going through to operator once, but it wont ring. Yes I have the No 1 bellset. I was wondering if anybody had any other wiring configurations to try please.

Re: Candlestick Telephone help.
There is some info in post 7 & 8 of this thread for using a 150 with a No. 25 bell set. I suspect you may already have seen that or something similar though.

Re: Candlestick Telephone help.
I think N250 is very hard to follow and the attached diagram is clearer.
I can't offer any further advice without knowing what the problem actually is. |

Re: Candlestick Telephone help.
Is there any chance of posting images of how your pillar and bellset are currently wired? There's always a chance that one of us may spot something you've missed.

Re: Candlestick Telephone help.
Your diagram above rather worries me in that TR (the common return for the transmitter and receiver) doesn't appear to be connected to anything. Also, I'm unclear where the green, red and white leads are going after leaving the bottom of your page.
Are you using a bellset? If so, how is this connected? Or do you simply have the dial, transmitter and receiver connected in series across the line?

Re: Candlestick Telephone help.
This is where my ignorance comes in I have wired as I see it explained in the diagram. I am wrong somewhere I do not know how or why or what is what I am just trying to follow steps. The page I wrote out shows my wires going from a candlestick phone to a bellset No. 1 at the bottom that's where my wires are going to intermediate cords red from tr in phone to tr in bellset, green from r in phone to r in bellset and white in phone to L2 in bellset.
I wired from the information on bobs telephone files for a 150 as I saw it |

Re: Candlestick Telephone help.
I haven't seen a 150 leaf set up so I don't know how its supposed to look. To me there looks to be 6 leaves and 2 change overs.
This is my bellset If anybody has leaves from a 150 candlestick that they could post, so I could see if they're the same, would maybe help me out please. |

Re: Candlestick Telephone help.
The colour coding on the 150 connections are correct when compared to the N250 drawing. The dial picture doesn't show the connections but the brown wire appears to be disconnected?

Re: Candlestick Telephone help.
Hi PJL the brown wire was from something else and not connected to this job thanks for looking. I am hoping somebody would post a side on view of a 150 switch hook so I can see the leaves.
Cheers. |

Re: Candlestick Telephone help.
The N104 document is here http://www.samhallas.co.uk/repositor.../0000/N104.pdf
However, your phone has a dial and the connections are consistent with a 150 so it has been converted already. Your No.4 has two changeover contacts and is probably already wired to provide the double contact arrangement required for the 150. You could post a better picture showing the connections from the switch and any links. |

Re: Candlestick Telephone help.
Thanks PJL I can see it is a No. 4 arrangement of the blades now I've have seen the diagram. There was nothing connected to the phone, there was a dial put in the base but no connection made, neither were the transmitter or receiver connected. I think it's just been cobbled together to make it look like it was a complete telephone.
My question is can it be got working like a 150 to a No. 1 bell set? |

Re: Candlestick Telephone help.
It may be made from the same parts and reassembling the leaves in a different order might convert it. Otherwise you will need to use the two break contacts but the original is designed to connect the receiver first.
The TS and TR connections are made by the leaves, the D connection is wired underneath. The order of the leaves is TS, TR then D. TS should be the longer one as in the pics provided by the link in post #13. Last edited by PJL; 16th May 2017 at 12:48 pm. |

Re: Candlestick Telephone help.
OK, I've looked at the diagrams and THINK this'll work. No promises though.
The red numbers on the diagram refer to the white ones on your photo. |
