Just been looking at the ME262 and wonder if indeed that is what it came off.

The Germans had a thing about using magnesium alloy ("Elektron") for some aircraft ancilliaries, so if the streamlined blister part feels notably light, it may well be that. It doesn't take at all well to poor storage, being keen to turn into crumbly white powder in damp conditions, so maybe someone painted it with whatever they had to hand long ago.

It does look original I must admit. Also it appears to be an alloy. It is not in front of me at present so will check later.

David, I think you are a VMARS member aren't you? It may be worth looking up Alan, G4GEN's details in the membership list and asking him. He flew Dakotas in the Berlin airlift and has continued to fly all sorts of planes so will have a pretty good knowledge.

If you don't have his details send me a PM and I'll look him up myself and forward to you as required.

Jim
