Default SSM Europa Transverter

I am restoring an old SSM Europa Mk1 (not the Europa B) 2 metre transverter that goes with an FT101ZD MK0, also recently restored.

I need to replace a capacitor to complete the job, but the original (well, not really original, but a previous user's bodge replacement) was a polystyrene type that has melted and the value can not be ascertained.

It's the coupling capacitor that goes between the collector of the 2N3866 local oscillator amplifier and the link coil that feeds the Tx mixer valve. Does anybody know the value? Probably less than 50pF, and I'd expect it to be ceramic.

Before anybody asks, yes I am aware of the limitations of these old transverters and I know the MOSFET Rx converter is probably deaf by design.... although the valve Tx converter is probably no worse (and may be better) than a lot of solid state types still in use.

I have drawn out the complete circuit diagram, but if anyone has a scan of an original, and any other documentation, I'd be interested in a copy.

Hi Dave

I do have a paper copy "somewhere", and a 2m Europa in the loft.

My shack and home office is in boxes at the moment as we built an extension (to house more "good stuff"). It is almost finished and will be unpacking in the next few weeks

Hopefully we will be able to have a QSO once I get my SB102 and SB500 running

Dave

Mr Google found a previous discussion on the Europa on this board with a link to get the documentation!

Hi Fred, many thanks for the info. Fortunately I have some 30pF ceramics in stock so all should be well.

I have a scan of the original manual for the Europa B model, if that's any use?

Thanks to all for the replies.
Two votes for 30pF and the circuit diagram from Roger all agree... capacitor duly fitted.
