Default Design a radio competition

This may be of interest to some. The BBC are running a competition to design a surround for a (dare I say it) digital radio.

Yes, I heard the Today Programme piece. Raising the profile a little of the history of radio was good. But my heart sank when, by the end of the item, not once was mentioned what the designed radio should be able to DO.

What bands should it cover? That's probably irrelevant as it'll be for a digital set, although not actually mentioned, despite the interviewee saying that one important feature of a radio was its dial...

Sound, RF performance, ease of use... nahh - it's just gotta look "cool".

(I need to get a life and let this stuff just pass me by.)

Regards,

Ian

I've sent for the design brief.
John Maxwell Hobb's article
http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/johnmaxwe...function.shtml
Quote:
I gave my wife a portable radio for Christmas. It has FM, DAB, Internet, WiFi, UPnP and network folder sharing. Essentially it does nothing that the computers in the house can't do, but for some reason it's opened the world of audio programmes in a way that our computers have not.
talks about form and function and explores the subject of user interface.
I think that when the presenter talks about "cool" it's like us taking abou say a Bush DAC 90A or an ECKO model AD-65.

We seem to have three threads on this subject in different sections so we're closing this one and leaving this oneopen.
