Medium wave broadcasting returns to Norway?
On an experimental basis apparently. We were on a short last-minute cruise last week and although I got nothing except the BBC on Medium wave in the southern Norwegian ports on my Sony portable, in Bergen I found a weak station called Northern Star on 1611 kHz. No ads, a good selection of music mainly from the 1960's with few1970's (Abba), station announcements every 20 mins or so alternating between (American) English, Norwegian, and Spanish. I wasn't able to find it once we had left Bergen, so must be low power, or fairly directional.
Now that we are back home I found their web site http://onlineradiobox.com/no/northernstar/ which gives further information, including their broadcast frequency in the 49m band and that they are broadcasting on a test and development licence. |
