Avatar picture file size
Hi there,
I thought it might be rather fun to upload a picture for my 'avatar'. However, it would seem that the maximum file size allowed is 80 x 80 or 19.5Kb. How on earth can I generate a file that small? I don't have photo editing software and (trust me on this) if I did, I would be very unlikely to fathom out how to use it At the moment, I use my camera to generate a 640 x 480 picture from a 10Mb file before uploading. The smallest file I can get is 71KB. So if I uploaded a file of that size, would the system software reduce it, or would it create havoc? Many thanks Nick |

Re: Avatar picture file size
Have you tried it? I thought the forum resized images to the correct size for avatars. It will either work or be rejected - havoc will not ensue

Re: Avatar picture file size
You can do this in Windows paint (certainly in W10)

Re: Avatar picture file size
Well, what do you know!! As Paul suggested, I uploaded the picture anyway and it all worked fine My logic, (which frequently gets in the way especially with computers) said max file size 19.5KB, my file 137Kb, therefore it can't work! Never even occurred to me to just do it anyway Clever things, these computers!
Thanks for all the advice and especially to Squipper for offering to resize them for me. This can now be closed Cheers Nick |

Re: Avatar picture file size
Just as an aside, for future resizing if you need to...
If using a PC then open the file in "Paint" press "Ctrl" and "W" together and it will open a resizing window, you will see a "Horizontal" and "Vertical" box where you can enter a percentage, enter the desired value and press enter and the image will be resized. I always use this method as it is very quick and simple. Cheers

Re: Avatar picture file size
For editing and general manipulation of images, I've always used IrfanView. And it's free, too!
