Sanyo Betamax VTC5000 video recorder. PSU circuit.
I recently got my old VTC5000 out of storage and did a complete overhaul with new belts, idlers etc that I had in stock and after that it worked perfectly. There was one niggling fault however in that the clock display flickered. So I found the faulty capacitor (standard fault I understand) and replaced it. Display now works perfectly but the power unit as a whole does now not work. Does anybody have a circuit diagram of the power unit and / or any idea what I might have broken. I have checked for blobs of solder but can't find any.

Hi
Check all diodes.Make sure the cap is in the right way. If the voltage regulator plays up you usually get erractic behavior.I would suspect the mains filter cap. This is known to go especially if those horrible multi,(two or three) plug distributors has been used.It also blows the main fuse. Also check the voltage is 9.8v (+ or - 1). Also check the wires in the mains plug are good and tight.I've had one sent to me with 'no power' and the live wire was loose inside the plug!!!!!!! ....................Kev |

Have you got the manual so you can trace which supply line is missing?
I've had similar symptoms on old videos where changing belts etc. has disturbed a hot-running power resistor stood off the board, which was dry jointed. N. |

No. Have been looking for a service manual / cct diagram but not much luck. I could probably just get my problem solved if I had a PSU circuit diagram as it all worked properly until I "repaired" the display problem.
Rule 1 - If it works then leave it alone. |

We had one of those once upon a time - my mother broke it.
We had a tape that had a rubber band around it - she didn't see it and loaded it into the machine - it never worked again Those are great little machines when they're working properly! |

I have a manual - if not for the 5000 a similar machine, I'll see if I can remember where I put it!

Hi. Thanks for the help. The best one is email address removed by moderator They don't mind large file sizes. I hope to get this VCR back in working condition as I have over 200 tapes that I want to go through and transfer to DVD. A lot of them are old Channel 4 documentaries etc that have never been broadcast since. It's a shame that DVD did not exist economically at the time this machine was on the front line.

email address removed by moderator We should be able to include a picture (I hope) using the paperclip at the top. Let me know if you get a picture of a car. The best might be to zip the scanned file and then you should be able to attach it via the paperclip. I hope I am right, if not the moderator might have to chip in and provide some guidance.

You send Sanbeta a Private Message (PM) in which you include your email address. Sanbeta then sends you the document you require as an email attachment.

That indeed is the way to do it. It's not a good idea to put your e-mail address in a forum like this because someone or something will get hold of it and send you spam. Tons of it! It happened to me a long time ago, and changing my e-mail address was the only cure.
