Default Identity of this radio case? (Premier, Little Maestro etc).

Hello,

Who can identify this radiocase ?

The dial, that came with it, might help too ?

Regards,

Han.

Looks like a Pilot Little Maestro case to me, of a kind that was produced in very large numbers and went on to be used for a multitude of kit sets from various suppliers, some superhets and some TRFs, some identified on the tuning dial (Premier, Bartons etc.) and some - like yours - not.

Sorry, I have to agree with Paul... it's definitely a Litttle Maestro derivative.

Apparently this moulding was still in use for kit radios well into the 1960s

Yes, I'm with Paul on this one as well, Its one of those generic Bakelite cases supplied by dozens of radio shops during the fifties for various home made TRF and superhet kit sets, I believe Concord Electronics were doing them as late as 1963. Similar style to the Pilot Little Maestro cabinet but has a flatter top and mouldings extended down the sides, You could buy the cabinet for 17/6d and the dial for 1/6d in 1954 money, that's less than a pound! .

Regards, Mick.

Hello,

Everybody thanks for their replies !

Found the original backpanel at the bottom of a different box which proofs that it is a Pilot Little Maestro !

Kind regards,

Han.

Hmmmm are you sure the back panel and cabinet started life together? As Paul said the kit cabinets were of a similar style to the Little Maestro but had mouldings extending down the sides whereas on the Pilot cabinet they only went part way which the pic of mine shows.....also - and I don't know if this is true of all Litle Maestros - mine has the word Pilot moulded above the tuning knob.

The back cover panel must be the wrong one. These cabinets were, as already stated, supplied in large quantities to the kit suppliers of the day. As Alvin rightly says, Pilot identified their sets with a moulded-in logo. Also, the scale glass shown is not of Pilot make - Pilot used on their scales a tiny image of a 'Little Maestro', with the 'pilot' light behind him!
The only cabinet difference I have noted, other than the added blind louvres to the sides, is the absence of the Pilot brand above the knobs.

Yep! I have a Premier kit radio with an identical cabinet but in white.

Thumbs up Re: Who can identify this radiocase ?

Hmmm,

You may have a point there. The sides look different indeed. So I think I have a Premier kit radio and dail with an original Pilot back.

Another step into the right direction !!!

Thanks !
