Default Argosy radiogram information wanted.

Hi,

I'm Jason, just joined and I have a 1956 Argosy radiogram that has been passed down to me. Don't really know a thing about it apart from it an early one from 1956 is fitted with 4 loudspeakers: one large round bass speaker, a smaller round unit for treble and two elliptical units for the mid-range. It has a magic eye tuning indicator.

Any clues would be great.

Hi Jason, and welcome to the forum.
What a beautiful radiogram! It screams quality, but what sort of information do you need? The first obvious thing to me is that you shouldn't play stereo records on it as it stands, as it is fitted with an old Garrard mono cartridge which will ruin stereo records. You can fit a replacement cartridge, but it can be a bit of a job to get a new cartridge fitted to this particular Garrard arm. It can be done, though. Is the existing cartridge working ok? A good clue would be if there is very little volume when the amplifier is in "Gram" mode, but the radio is fine, which indicates that the cartridge is duff. Let us know if there are any particular problems, and we'll try to help.

Deck looks like a Garrard RC120. Nice unit.
