Is this the first Pye Transistor set?
Hi all, i bought this set this morning at a car boot thinking it was a valve set!
When i got home imagine my surprise when i found it was a transistor set As on first glance it looks like any other valve 'suitcase' set of the 1950's. I know that the first transistor set was made by pye under the PAM badge. Maybe this was the first Pye transistor set? It certainly looks early, being this style. The model No is Q4. On connecting it to my bench psu, it works well other than a dirty wavechange switch & a crackly volume pot, by the state of the cabinet, it has been well used! |

Pye Q3 and INVICTA 3O . From 1959 onwards .There is a bigger version with different styling .I think its related closely to the pam and a few other pye upright models

The Q4 was a 1960 model. The first transistorised Pye portable was the P123BQ of 1957, although a Pye badged version of the PAM710 (1956) is known to exist.

Re: Is this the first Pye Transistor set?
Hello Mark,
That model isn't the first PYE transistor, this is the one, the P123BQ. https://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/...4&d=1164193965 Howard |

Re: Is this the first Pye Transistor set?
Thanks howard, i have a scruffy one of those in green!
I honestly thought this set would pre-date that due to it's 'suitcase' design. This will be an easy set to restore, the set is nice, shame about the cabinet Quote:
Thanks for dating it Darren,it's doing well, 49 years old & no signs of repair! It sounds good now it's had a drink of servisol! it's great listening to the beatles on Gold Mark |
