Default Pye Continental.

Is anyone able to help with a Pye Continental valve radio or point me to someone in Manchester that could help me? the mains side is smoking due to the wrong valve being put in EABC80 was put in place of the EZ80 by mistake. Now the power side is smoking after a while.

Any help appreciated.

Hi Andy

Is there a model number? and perhaps a couple of pictures, I am sure once we know the model number the circuit diagram can be found. Apart from the EZ80, it would be best to change all of the waxy looking capacitors and make sure the electrolytic ones are good.

Best wishes

Ken

Hi again Andy,

If this is the set I think it is Pye Continental Model VHF2D and the valve line up being ECC85, ECH81, EF89, EABC80, EZ80. then the circuit diagram is available at the top right of this page. Trader sheet 1410. Hope this helps.

I have one of these and they go up to 108 mcs (a bit of a rarity)

Not much to them and easy to do a cap swop - but performance is only middling anyway

If I remember correctly, the VHF 2D output stage is on a paxolin PCB which can get overheated, charred, become conductive and maybe smoke.
