Default Philips 701 Speaker sockets?!

I have obtained a lovely radio, Philips 701, but it has no speakers nor AM/FM antennas.
I've attached photos of the sockets and was wondering what type of sockets they were as I would love to hear it up and running. Can you still get these speaker plugs and AM/FM aerials?
Many thanks in anticipation!

The speaker plugs are standard DIN speaker plugs, which should still be available from component suppliers. The aerial plugs are European-type plugs which Maplin used to sell but probably don't any more. I don't know of a current source for them, and I can't remember a particular name for them which would help with a web search. Hopefully someone else will know.

You can buy a FM "Ribbon" internal aerial from Maplins. Make sure it has a 2 pin plug. As for AM, you can get away with a 2M length of single wire with a bared end pushed into the Aerial (see "Y" symbol) socket. These Philips receivers have really sensitive Tuners and will sound good.

What you need is a FM IEC-plug.
Read this thread: http://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/s...d.php?t=115589
Postings #19 & #24 contains pictures and info about these plugs.
Used to buy a 100 at the time for the shop in the old days.
The center plastic-pin would easily break-off but the plug is still OK.
Obviously that goes for any old plug you may find lying around.
The 2 metal pins are essential; the plastic pin not.
To mount it on a coaxial-cable just twist the shield to fit hole in one pin and the center-wire in the other.
Doesn't matter which is which.
I still keep a couple of these plugs in the drawer but there's an awfull long way between Denmark & the UK.

The IEC aerial plugs weren't much used in the UK, where 75 ohm unbalanced cabling became standard for FM after the early 60s, and they can be difficult to find. You can fix bare wires in the socket holes with matchsticks, though obviously this isn't an ideal solution.

Many thanks for this. I read the other thread and it seems to be a similar issue.
I'll take all of this great advice on board and report back once I have the radio playing!
Many thanks all,
Steve.

It seems that Maplins only sell the socket style FM aerial. I've checked the website and this is the only one...

I'll keep looking! ;-)

Just a word of caution i would not leave that radio powered up with no speakers attached it could damage the amplifier.
