The springiness has remained over the last couple of days where I have been using this mic with a couple of radios.
I am still puzzled about it though, the handset style was, as noted upthread used with Larkspur series radios but none of those used a 270 Degree metal DIN connector... And the wiring of the plug was different to the Pye layout. I wonder what it was originally intended to be used with?? Like I said in the opening post it came in Military brown paper and cardboard packaging.
