Speaker choice for Beogram/Beomaster

I picked up a Beogram 1200 and a Beomaster 901 in a junkshop under a pile of books for a great price a few weeks ago.

I am looking to get some nice used speakers for it; I understand that it needs quite efficient speakers as it is fairly low output, any suggestions?
A friend has offered me some Eltax Symphony 6.2 that he wants to get rid of but I imagine they will need a preamp of some sort right?

Excuse my ignorance on this, any help would be much appreciated!

What has a preamp got to do with speakers?

Any mainstream hifi speakers made in the last 40 years are likely to be fine. It's more a question of finding speakers with a sound you like. Very good speakers go for peanuts or nothing on eBay and Freegle nowadays, though there are a few models favoured by the golden ears brigade which fetch high prices.

The Eltax speakers should be fine.

The Beomaster 901 has an output of 20 watts per channel, plenty for domestic situations. B&O speakers are 4 ohm types. Use 4 ohm speakers to make best use of those 20 + 20 watts, although 6 or 8 ohm types can be used safely.

If you use 8 ohm speakers the maximum output power will be reduced, but should still be fine for normal domestic use. If you wanted very high output for some reason you wouldn't choose this amp in the first place.

I have a pair of largish 1970s Wharfedales that you can have free of charge if you can collect (OX2 or OX11).

I've used various speakers on my Beomaster over the years and found no real difference, with plenty of volume for a domestic environment.
