I guess that they think most equipment will be dumped once it is about 10 years or so old and that most of them will have lasted that long. Most of the failures have been on units from the 1970s and 1980s.
Having said that this one looks like it is dated late 1992.

Hi Matty,

I think the logic works like this:

Are resin-encapsulated paper-dielectric mains capacitors faulty or not?

The manufacturer reasons that they aren't because they keep selling - faulty products don't sell.

The buyer reasons that they aren't because the manufacturer keeps selling them - manufacture quickly ceases on faulty products.

So we're all agreed - they can't be faulty

I have a Schaffner filter from 1997 that failed a few weeks ago, so that beats 1992 by 5 years! This is the 'snap in' version with fuse and switch.

No fuse was harmed by its gentle but smelly demise.
