Default ID: 1964 MIP KW Meter - dual V & A scales, needle crossing

Hi All,

Can anyone shed any light on this dual moving coil panel meter?

It's scaled 0 - 200V, and 0 - 12A. Made by MIP. Dated 1964.

I've Googled high and low, but can't find any information or images. Who were MIP, what did MIP stand for?

It's quite a nice piece of kit, a simple way to find a wattage, and is compensated for different impedance loads from 2 ohms to 100 ohms.

I'm looking to sell it, but wanted to figure out a rough value first, as the forum rules state only to ask for a set price.

Please see attached images.

Thanks, Scott.

MIP get a mention in Google Books https://books.google.co.uk/books?id=...%20MIP&f=false

Instrumentation in Process Control
By E. J. Wightman

Which might give further ideas for internet search (anything on Grace's Guide?)

Thanks, Graces Guide was a great tip! - I'd never heard of that site before!

"Measuring Instruments Pullin" - see this wonderful advert: http://www.gracesguide.co.uk/images/...43AFP-Meas.jpg

The process control book is also an interesting find too, thanks!

thanks for your help, knowing the company name has helped to unearth a few more interesting items, but no info on this particular meter.

Thanks again, Scott.

I've just noticed that Maplin sell a wattmeter, branded Daiwa, which uses the same principle.

Oh yes, that's interesting, thanks, I've just looked it up!

I think I'm going to hold on with selling this instrument until I've discovered a little more about it, but unfortunately the internet isn't helping much!

Cheers, Scott.

This looks perfect for my Solar PV project. DC 160v @ 8amps.
If you decide to sell, let me know, please.

The Daiwa one is probably a directional RF wattmeter showing transmitter output power on one pointer, and the reflected power from the antenna on the other.

The needle crossing point lies over a scale like a contour map of VSWR (A popular format for expressing the reflection coefficient of an RF load)

Yes, it does look like a VSWR meter (Voltage Standing Wave Ratio), which measures the forward and reverse standing wave ratio of the RF power from a transmitter output to the feed point of the antenna.

For modern examples see:
