Vintage equipment. Value?
firstly hello to everyone ... please dont think me rude, but i know nothing whatsoever about vintage radios etc, let me explain, my neighbours grandfather recently passed away and was a massive collector of old vintage radios etc and took very good care of all his stuff,
i have been asked to try to find out what price each would be worth for the family who wish to sell it all. I have looked on ebay for rough prices but decided my best option would be to join this group as you folk would know far more than i ever could ...and the family would rather it go to people who would take care of it... if you could please let me know the prices for each and if interested please contact me and i will pass on the phone number of the family member so you can arrange options with them directly. As far as they are aware, ALL items are in working order but with no way to test them or knowledge of how to connect them up, they said its best to put them on as spares or repairs... many thanks for any help items for sale are ............. BRENELL MK 5 REEL TO REEL MACHINE REPS RIO REEL TO REEL MACHINE TRUVOX R102 REEL TO REEL MACHINE SHARP SA10 STERIO AMPLIFIER ALBANY HOUSE AM208 AMP ROGERS RAVENSBROOK STERIO AMP DU-AL DARE INGLIS SPEAKERS (PAIR ) AKAI AA-103 STERIO RECEIVER POINEER SX850 STERIO RECEIVER PIONEER PL-1120 TURNTABLE Also available are about 200 various old 78 albums and about 100 45 single records ( mostly country and western ... 50's 60's and 70's ) as well as big bands.. and old singers ... ie gene pitney .... original frank sinatras ... jazz etc etc ...possible collectors pieces.. there are also somewhere in the region of 300 or more reel to reel tapes .... some have music ( 50's and 60's singers and country)old time jazz and many many which they have no idea whatsoever whats on them ... again possible collectors items ? All the electric machines look to be in very good condition and have been stored in a dry place ... many thanks |

Re: Vintage equipment. Value?
Hi there
Welcome to the forum - croeso cynnes iawn i'r fforwm! You have some quite nice items there. One problem with ebay pricing is that some people have a 'buy it now' figure that nears no resemblance at all to the real world. It then becomes the yardstick for everyone else. It's worth looking at archive pages and see what 'untested' versions of the items went for. Off the top of my head, and I'm very prepared to be wrong here, I'd suggest thhe following:- Brenell - anything from £20 to £60 depending on condition Reps - quite collectable, this. Maybe £30 - 60? Truvox - early solid-state with Magnavox deck - around £25 - 40? The Rogers is quite sought after, especially if in nice condition. The Japanese amplifiers aren't worth too much. The Albany House is rare, and might fetch £30. The Pioneer is a nice turntable - it's PL112D, and if treated to a new belt will fetch around £60 I'd guess. The Offered section of this forum is a good place to start - you'll soon know if you've pitched the price too high! Glyn |

The "Alabany House" is a badged version of a basic 1970s Teleton 8+8W stereo amplifer and may only have a low value.

Bog standard selling, ebay, for more interesting stuff you may get an offer here (strictly by PM).

Re: Vintage equipment. Value?
It's my belief that the 'sales portal' that reaches the most people is the one that will yield the highest prices, particularly if it is an auction and people are bidding against each other. Hardcore enthusiasts do scour auctions for stuff just as they/we talk and trade stuff here on this 'specialist' forum. For sure, an auction will not be lacking in views by, and sales to enthusiasts. I'm assuming the seller - understandably - wants to maximise their returns from the sale of these items. So that's what I'd do, sell these items by auction. To find out how much they are worth, take a look at the prices that the same items have actually sold for (look at sold listings); not what people are presently asking for - there's a big difference.
If you don't know as a matter of true fact if an item is working or not, I would not state that they are "believed to be working". I think that is both unfair and likely to get the seller into hot water. Mention the background (former collector/enthusiast blah blah) and the reason for sale etc and state that you don't now if they are in full working order. You may take a price hit saying that, but better than people coming back to you accusing you of misleading them - and how will you know if they are telling the truth or lying if you don't know yourself if they are working?! Speaking for myself, I have successfully negotiated partial refunds on mis-described items, particularly those described as fully working that turn out not to be so. So beware of that. Play down descriptions, not up. Otherwise I'm sure you will also get offers and sales for those very nice items on here, we're a pretty genuine lot, but most people are looking for a bargain. But like I say, I believe an auction will attain the best prices for those items. Best of luck

Re: Vintage equipment. Value?
I've just checked out a few actual sold prices for you:
Pioneer P112D: £40 - £185 Pioneer SX-850: £525 Brenell MK5 (there are variants..): £43 - £164 The Akai isn't recognised by a google search - is that model number correct? and some of the others are a bit obscure to have sold in large numbers to be able to get data from the auction.
