The Bush "Wonky U" Makes a Return !!
For those who collect the original Bush TR82 & the later Reproduction model (affectionately known as the "Wonky U" version) you may be interested to know the "Wonky U" mistake has made an appearance yet again.
Below are a couple of pics of it, even though it's printed on the body of the radio, also instructions how to get good reception on AM seems strange !

This suggests that there's no Ferrite Rod inside for AM reception. Edward

Edward, it suggests to me that there is a ferrite rod inside, but the writer is talking nonsense.
But you could be right, both explanations are logical. Les. |

I just love Chinese user instructions. Not. I recently re-wrote the whole user instructions for a transistor tester because I was sick of referring to them and struggling to understand them while simultaneously trying to test a trannie! Now the instructions are understandable 'at a glance'!

Very much a sign of the times that the actual process of tuning needs explaining though.

As indeed it would a hundred years ago, though it may have been called Syntonising then.

Yeah, instructions nearly 100 years ago.
Tune your radio to 369 meters... ..Nah...Instructions can't be right m'ducks, they must mean one thousand two hundred and ten feet seven and a half inches and a bit. Lawrence. |

Re: The Bush "Wonky U" Makes a Return !!
I broke the U taking it off to polish the case of my original TR82c. It's easy enough to fix, but I'm half tempted to put it back wonky.
Without taking things too far off topic, but what are the latest 'reproductions' actually meant to be? |

Repros, Reproductions & similar words should be replaced by the word Pastiche.

I have nothing against these sets as I presume that they serve a purpose and fill a gap in the market. However the one you have shown seems to be a tribute to a tribute.
At least when I tell people that I collect Bush radios they know what I mean... or at least they have heard of the name. |

Soon that will be lost, especially as the Argos group (the owners of the Bush name) have a variety of products named 'Bush'. Only 6 months ago, I bought a 'Bush' fridge (made is China of course!)

Re: The Bush "Wonky U" Makes a Return !!
The 'wonky U' is on, amongst other models, the TR82WOOD(It isn't wood, it's plastic, of course!) 3-band replica, which, IMHO, is actually quite well made, although this is the one where thefrequency markings on the dial, which should be in Metres anyway) are the wrong way round. I've recently been asked to repair one which plays very quietly on all 3 bands, and, IIRC, there is a Voltage regulator IC which fails, so that may be the cause of this fault. If so, it will be easily repairable.

Re: The Bush "Wonky U" Makes a Return !!
Well, people go on about the 'U', but the 'S' is more than a bid dodgy too, it's rolling away! I think they've amalgamated three different font types in the name 'BUSH' on that set!

Re: The Bush "Wonky U" Makes a Return !!
The TR82WOOD doesn't have voltage regulator ICs, these are only used, AFAIK, in the TR82DAB model. When I typed post #14, I hadn't opened the 'WOOD model, so sorry to have misled anyone.
