Question Morphy Richards Radio R150. Tuning dial broken.

Hello, I'm new to this and not a radio buff but really don't want to throw away this little Morphy Richards radio but can't tune it. I think, from reading on here, that the cord has snapped. Should I risk getting screwdrivers, taking it apart and trying to figure out how to replace the cord or that not a job for an amateur? hints welcome.

Is this the radio?
Depends if you can use small hand tools, if you can you take care of any mains power section not to damage it you should be able to find a mechanical problem .

Obviously work on it with power disconnected, if you are not confident that you can keep the integrity of the power supply circuit it may be better to let someone who can deal with it.

The problem is going to be, although the Radio has the name of a previously well known British product it's not of British manufacture most likely it's Chinese, not that I have anything against that per-say but they're not normally robust enough to be handled by one who lacks previous experience of basic Chinese products.

You may encounter more than just a broken tuning cord, in some cases the plastic parts that enable the tuning cord to move along may have been damaged too, or the internal tuning cam/wheel could also be damaged. etc, etc, etc.

The variables could be many and even a skilled repairer may shy away from tackling the job.

If you usually only listen to one station, you could always open it up, power it on batteries, then manually rotate the tuning mechanism until your favourite station is tuned-in, then re-assemble and leave it at that.
