Chippendale Feet (How Common?)
This is a picture of a set I have owned for 50+ years. Homebrew I am certain but glass cabinet and those feet.

Re: Chippendale Feet (How Common?)
Such decorative cabinet features in company with wiring and components on display do make an unexpected combination: then, in this particular instance the cabinet style may have been just what it took to persuade the lady of the house that the set could take its place in the drawing room!
Ball-and-claw feet did crop up now and again on radio items designed to stand on the floor. Here's one of the four charged with supporting the roughly 170 lbs. of a Marconi 563 radiogram. Paul |

That Paul is just superb.
Believe Dyantron had clawed feet too? David

Re: Chippendale Feet (How Common?)
Yes, there are a few on view at
http://www.dynatronmuseum.org.uk/index.htm . A couple of doubtless very heavy 1930s models perched on long elegant legs, and optional period clothing at a considerable price premium for some 1940s/50s radiograms. The 563's style seems not to have been a commercial success, as the model launched at 67 gns. in September 1937 and was discounted to 39 gns, a very deep cut, in July '39. Perhaps by that time its being an elaborate model lacking any form of push-button tuning was making it a hard sell. Paul |
