To anyone who owns one of these sets, this mod is well worth doing as the sound is much improved. Manufacturers didn't always get it 'right'. And that begs the question, what was considered 'right' when they designed it? I'm guessing they were still trying to (to some extent) emulate the mellow tones of valve sets. As a boy I can remember on many occasions hearing older people refer to the "tinny" sound of transistor sets. So maybe Roberts' design engineers were avoiding it being called "tinny" at all costs. Interesting.
