Default Help wanted Identifying PYE transistor radio

Hi everyone, I am hoping for my second post someone can identify this PYE transistor radio so I can get a service sheet for it.

Apart from the case needing cleaning the radio it self works perfectly, tuning is spot on and there is no distortion therefore I don't intend doing anything but clean the set but would like the manual for future reference.

Big thanks in anticipation.

David......

No LW usually means it's an export model.

Oh look. AF11x transistors. You don't need a circuit to find the faults!

The nearest UK set appears to be the 1355.

Cheers,

Steve P.

Looks like someones modified it to use a PP9 rather than the setup suggested by the rear panel diagram.

In picture 4 the 'D' cell holder look original and has PP9 connectors on it and tucked down the back of the holder is a card with male and female snap's on it (Pic 4) I presumed this was provided to clip onto a PP9 to protect the terminals should one be left in while using the U2 (D) cells. Looking closely at the PP3 connector it looks to be original but your post highlights why I need a service sheet to confirm this as the card could be a red herring.

Funnily enough I had just read the thread on the AF1xx growing wires inside and found the NASA link fascinating but as the set is working OK I'll worry about that one later.

Cosmetically the 1355 looks different so I am reluctant to buy a service sheet for it as I also need to understand the internal layout and battery arrangement as highlighted by Herald1360's post.

I am however eternally grateful for the time all you guy's have taken to answer my query.

Cheers n Beers,

David......

The battery arrangement also suggests an export model. British makers usually designed their sets to use layer batteries such as PP9s at this time, but these were never popular outside Europe so the export sets were fitted with holders for cell batteries.

Oop's last mention of PP3 should of course read PP9 and the picture reference should be "bottom left Pic 3" not Pic 4.

Too much leftover Christmas sauce was to blame.... Sorry

I'm including a few more pics to help identify this radio though it looks like I have a strange one here.

First pics are of the battery box which looks original and a pic of the serial No (628375) I found next to the VC then the Licence plate.

I wonder is there a register of licence numbers similar to the American system which allows you to look up and identify the equipment on-line.

It looks very similar to the PE12 see here...

http://www.radiomuseum.org/r/pye_pe12tbqpe_12_tb.html

but the speaker is on the other side, the PE12 does have MW and 3 x SW, maybe it's a later model?? but I'm only guessing...

Thanks Peter, I have been trawling through everything PYE without luck so far, so this link has saved me a lot of time

Could mine be the later model as the one in your link looks to have the same type of battery plug shown on the insert card where as mine has pp9 snaps, also when did round IFT's end their production life, I seem to think they were phased out while square cans continued, mine is all square.

Looking at the chassis around the tuning capacitor looks identical and the telescopic is the same with an identical tip.

Comparing the quality of the case suggests mine was made to a cheaper standard to the one in the link, possibly for a less wealthy and demanding part of the World (perhaps a budget set or built to a price).

I have just read the thread on the PE12TBQ in "Success Stories" and note the OP could not find a circuit diagram for this radio so the search is still on.

I am indebted to you for advancing my search a bit further and thank you.

Cheers n Beers,

David.......
